Description

Rare collection of Aesop’s Fables books and tiles, valued at $27,000. The collection is about a slave and storyteller who was believed to have lived in ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BCE. Each story demonstrates a moral value to the reader. Popular examples include: “The Tortoise and the Hare” and “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”.

Tiles (12 Tiles) – Produced by Mintons Work’s Series and drawn by John Moyr Smith back in 1872 – 1875. Each tile is based on the stories in Aesop’s Fables – covering up to 12 stories. Victor Lim, a Peranakan and tile collector had taken about 20-30 years to collect all these tiles.

Books (9 Books) – The collection of Aesop’s Fables books dated all the way back to 1669, one of the first few books written by Sir Roger L'Estrange, Kt. The collection also has the only Mandarin copy of Aesop’s Fable available in the world – produced in Hong Kong. Similar to the tiles, the books took 20-30 years for Victor to collect.
